This time it was a writer. A good one—with a finished manuscript and a clear vision. But the agent asked about followers. Not plot. Not craft.
And just like that, the path forward became: “I just need to build an audience.”
We’ve all said it in some form. I just need to finish the project. Land the show. Make the sale. Write the grant. Win the client.
But “just” rarely means simple.
When we zoom out, the next step feels enormous. When we zoom in, the next step gets more obvious.
How Coworking with Creatives is changing—
I’ve been thinking hard about how to shape our Coworking with Creatives sessions. They’ve always been about creating space for progress, that space is going to get laser-focused and intentional.
Each session will focus on introducing and building around a free tool we've developed: a Management Dashboard for Artists.
It’s not a flashy app or SaaS product. It’s a simple, sharable tool to collaborate and manage complex creative practices—goals, money, tools, tasks—in a Google sheet.
Our next Coworking with Creatives session will introduce this tool. Use this form to learn more or RSVP to next week's session to get the tool plus a welcome guide that explains some of the philosophy behind it (and other tips).
A dashboard won’t do the work for you but it can help you see where to begin.
I'll follow up again before our next session with more details about the new dashboard, and how we already see it at work.
