Is social media still the right place to be?

Hello Reader,

Are you watching TV these days?

Not so long ago, everyone knew CBS, NBC, and ABC and got their news from broadcast networks (and newspapers before that).

Fast forward to today—the media landscape has radically changed (again).

I've been having a lot of conversations with friends and clients about the shifting landscape of social media—Facebook? Instagram? Should you move to Bluesky?

Think back just 5 years ago—when it's the water we swim in, it's hard to imagine anything will ever change. (Probably like broadcast television felt.)

I’ve been reflecting a lot about these media shiftsfrom artist's concerns and will to leave it to feelings of wasted energy and skepticism. How can we make sustainable business decisions (or build a legacy) when media trends change constantly?

Creative Business Dashboards: Metrics, Tools & Weekly Check-Ins

The hard truth is, we don’t own our social media audiences. Algorithms shift, platforms rise and fall out of our control. Platforms change to serve other interests then artists and entrepreneurs scramble.

Email marketing isn't flashy—but it’s reliable, works and has been a constant while other media changes.

With many wary feelings around about social media, I’m hosting our next Coworking with Creatives PRO session this Monday, March 10 at 10 AM ET to talk more about using email to build relationships.

In this "Email Marketing 102" session, I've invited Arianna Valle—an pro email marketer—to share:

  • Templates and outlines that save time
  • Resources for design inspiration
  • How to express your work email by leaning into brand voice

Let's step away from playing games with other’s rules and start building spaces we control to connect to our audience.

Keep going,
Scott
